In western, modern Christianity, there is a trend of people heavily prioritizing intellectual engagements within the Church over Spiritual understanding/encounters. The Scriptures warn against this. The Church without the power and authority of the Spirit will fall, and Jesus himself knew this. This is why he had the disciples tarry at Jerusalem until they received the power of the Spirit before they even started their ministry. Many people misunderstand who the Holy Spirit is and His job in the church, and mistakenly demean and dismiss any spiritual experiences that occur today. The disciples originally preached in word and in power, with signs and wonders as God worked through them. The Holy Spirit and His gifts were instrumental for the movement of Christianity, and still is today. However, because many churches are straying away from this, many others doubt the power and presence of a living God today, and as a result, question if God exists, and if he does, if he is even good, seeing that he doesn’t seem as prevalent today as he did in the Bible. This is not God’s fault, but the result of many people either straying from the foundations of the Church and/or misusing and abusing the gifts of the Spirit. The Jesus Conversations aims to bring clarity to these doubts, and to reaffirm the power, presence, and goodness of God and His Spirit today.
