How to Worship God

August 30, 2023 · In: Christian Everyday Tips

This post is all about how to worship God.

worship

Worship is one of the key fundamentals of Christianity, or anyone who follows Christ. The Bible has instructed us several times all throughout scripture what it truly means to worship God, and what makes our worship significant and valuable.

The first question to ask is why do we worship God? God is our creator, and the one who makes all things. He is beyond worthy and deserving of praise because of who he is and what he has done. God is a supreme ruler of heaven and earth, and yet, he cares and loves each and every one of us dearly.

Think about it. The great and mighty Creator who has made the moon and the stars, the sun and all of nature, the animals and creatures, humans and our vast intellects, wants to commune with us. He wants us! He died for us while we were still in our evil ways and rejecting him. God loves us even when we don’t love him. God is so amazing, and this description is just merely scratching the surface. He is the one who gave us life, but he didn’t even stop there. In every way, we can depend on him. Worshipping God is just one of the ways we can give back what he gave to us and show appreciation for everything he has done and for who he is.

How to Worship God

1. Music

christian

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” Psalms‬ ‭100‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

One of the main ways to worship God is through music. We can sing worship songs, dance, play instruments, or clap and wave our hands. Throughout scripture, you can see that God loves when his people sing to him, and he appreciates when we use our voices in worship. Many battles have been won just by singing praises and using instruments for God’s glory. Praise and worship is powerful, and God loves music. You can always feel his presence and Holy Spirit moving in you and all around you when you lift up your voice to worship him.

2.Actions

christian

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“For you were bought at a price; THEREFORE glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Another way we can worship God is through our daily actions and behavior. We honor God through the things we do, and through the things we don’t do. Jesus has said if we love him, keep his commandments. The very first way we can show honor to God is by abiding by his word. Living according to God’s word brings him glory because it shows that you respect him and what he says. God has created all of life- every aspect of it. So, he truly knows the best way to go about things. By keeping his word, we show we trust him, and will sacrifice any of our selfish and lustful desires to be holy. The first commandment is to love God with all that we have. This means in our daily choices of right and wrong, of spending more time with God or not, we must put God first.

The second commandment is to love others as yourself. Jesus has said, the way you treat even the smallest ones are the way you treat me. This means that in our day-to-day behavior, we must be forgiving, kind, humble, gracious, and giving. We are also instructed to tell other of the greatness and mercy of God and invite them to our faith. This bring God glory because not only are you represent who God is and how wonderful it is to be a part of his family, but helping others get to know him and be saved.

‬‬ “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

3. In Spirit and in Truth

worship

“Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭29‬:‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”” John‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

A key point that I have to make here is that just doing good things or singing Christian songs are not enough by itself to bring true honor and glory to God. Your heart has to be in it. God desires sincerity and does not want any surface level performance. He requires those that worship him to do so with their whole heart, their whole mind, and their whole soul. God doesn’t settle for anything less than everything.

So, when you bring your praise offering to Christ, do it in full surrender. Mean what you say and do. God is just like you and me in the way that we want the people in our lives to be genuine and not put up a fake show of love towards us. So, don’t hold back in worship. Whatever you do, do it well and with all you’ve got! And when you give God your all, he gives you his all. And God is awesomely amazing, so I think it’s more than a fair deal!
